Ratko Stambolija

I was sitting on my couch the other day, the rain was falling, and I kept thinking about writing another book. Another one I probably won't finish, and if I do, I won't publish it. Still, I have something to say, so why not say it?

So here we are.

My name is Ratko. I come from the Balkans. I mainly write about existentialism, the search for meaning, outsiders, the absurd, and that specific sort of tavern stoicism that exists around here. My writing is a mix of reality and fiction, somewhere between recollecting what happened and what could have happened. There's a bit of magic realism in there, too.

I’m not a published author yet, but I hope to change that this year. You know what they say - if the mountain won't come to me, I’ll go to the mountain.

For years, I kept a blog where I wrote what I honestly think about the world, shared short stories, and the occasional stretch terrible poetry (usually, everyone else suffers when I'm happily in love). Now I’m looking to get back to it, so I've made this website and started a Substack newsletter. I write in English, Serbian, and sometimes in Spanish.
